Debian GNU 2.2
Kernel 2.4.20 on an AMD Duron

Welcome to Eric the BBS. (yeah yeah, it's still called Eric :)
This is (probably) the last of a long line of BBSes I've run. (if you're
really curious about the history of this place, type history once logged in)
There's no doubt some features missing/bugs to be fixed, let me
know if there's something particulary annoying and I'll see if I can
fix it.

Greg

Fun mountain.. ya, that was it. I was last there when I was... 15...
that would be... 18 years ago! bahahahahahah (well, almost 19 now)

I have a collection of old magazines, including 80 Micro mags from
back in the TRS-80 days, which I've kept a hold of. I should have more
somewhere, but I'm not sure where they are at the moment.

E-mail me anything you get your hands on...

Geez, I gotta check in here more often. It's been almost a year!

Got a new toy... Picked up a TiVo. Unfortunately, it's different than
my bf's, so it isn't totally working yet. But, what the heck. I've got
till Wednesday (when my mom gets home). <grin>

Oh yeah, and I did miss you (all) this year. I did indeed have a birthday
bbq, but with a Tai Chi theme.

Mmmmmmm, TiVo.
I've got three of them now.
One is a series 1 DTiVo and the poor thing is now a doorstop due to recent
changes in certain data streams. <siiigh>
One is an original series 1 phillips, and that one is doing a certain
local Sat service.
The new one is a series 2 Toshiba DVD player/TiVo combo and that one is
doing the one accessable non-local Sat service left.

Welcome back to the strange little BBS that never seems to die. :)

Ok, this is for the various oldies that've come back recently.
Yes, I'm still here, still letting the BBS muddle along on it's own.
Someone asked about continuing the BBS if it should become a burden.
This software is hiding in the corner of my HA system and doesn't take
up any resources whatsoever. (well a little disk space, I suppose)
(180 Meg, actually)
So, there's no plans for eric to go anywhere any time soon.

Whoever mentioned advertising. One thing I've never ever done is advertise
that this place exists, just been amazed all the people who have found
it over the years. Esp amazing was when it was totally down for most
of a year. I brought it back up and I can't recall how long it was but
someone was still trying to take a poke at it and here we are again.

Whoever asked about archives, nothing easily accessable unfortunately.
But I do still have the system that was Ariel II, and before that Ariel
III on that same drive. I also have the drive from Original Eric days.
I have to get my act together sometime though and try to pull the data
from both of these. Ariel II's hardware might be tricky, that was a very
non standard system with a SASI drive.
I do want to do that sometime and translate the data into something this
system will understand, one day....

Any other questions, just ask, I'll eventually remember the system exists
and logon. :)

Oh yes. The BBS history idea.
I think it's a neat idea and might even be able to help with some forum
software.

No, you go ahead and 'appreciate' yourself... my arm is tired.

<oof>

Of course, with all the weight behind it...

Uh, I think I'll stop while I've still a head...

Any chance of getting a copy of the system, or releasing it? I'd like
to see about customizing it a bit for an in-house message board.

I'd be embarrassed to let the source out, it's such a mess.
Let's see, 3600 lines of code, 91 lines of comments, probably 1/2 of which
is just code commented out.
Never quite got around to doing the whole comment thing. :)

I never say never, but so far I've resisted.

Well, if you ever want. I'd just want to implement it, so long as it
can be easily moved to another system, why not.

IRC is just too broadcast-happy, they won't let us touch Jabber, and write
doesn't quite cut it... just thought it would be... well, 'neat'.
